Le erbe di San Giovanni tra botanica e magia – SERINUS
Average price € 3
The June appointment of the botanical walks of the Forte is dedicated to the herbs of San Giovanni and the tradition that involves plants, the sun, and water, during the shortest night of the year.
The herbs gather the energy of the sun, at its peak during the days of the summer solstice, and transfer to the water magical properties which, according to a popular belief that we like to indulge in, can ward off the evil eye, diseases, and ailments we must constantly protect ourselves from!
The pre-Christian tradition has since been linked to San Giovanni Battista, who is also the patron saint of Finale Ligure.
The quintessential herb of San Giovanni is St. John’s wort, flowering naturally during the days of the solstice, but many other herbs accompany it in its function: we will get to know them in the garden of the Forte and along the trails leading to the Becchignolo hill.
