“Variations” is a puppet theater performance that has won over international audiences: through a single puppet, it constructs a surprising, poetic, and profoundly human universe. The protagonist is Proto: an essential puppet, with few features, that comes to life before the audience’s eyes until it becomes a living, fragile, and irresistibly empathetic presence.
Aware of being moved by strings and guided by its manipulActors, Proto embarks on a journey of play, relationships, exploration of the world, and questions about identity and the relationship with technology. The performance alternates lightness and poetry, irony and reflection, engaging spectators of all ages.
On stage, the two artists never hide: they become an integral part of the narrative, creating a continuous dialogue between body, object, and imagination. This results in a theater that reveals itself and, for this reason, creates a double layer of interpretation: on one side, we follow the story of the puppet; on the other, we observe the theatrical mechanism, the thin line between who is alive and who becomes so through theater.

The Di Filippo Marionettes Company is an INTERNATIONAL company that presents its performances all over the world and speaks to audiences of all ages without using words. “Variations” is a small masterpiece of contemporary puppet theater.
