THE PROCESSION OF OUR LADY OF CARMINE

In July, Finalborgo celebrates the
evocative procession of the Madonna
del Carmine, a centuries-old tradition
dating back to the period of Spanish rule
. After vespers, the statue of the
Virgin, dressed according to Spanish iconography,
is carried in procession through the
streets of the village, illuminated by candles and
lights in the windows, until it reaches the
Porta Reale bridge, where, raised by
the arms of the porters, it turns towards the
four cardinal points to embrace
the neighbouring communities.

THE PROCESSION OF SAINT PETER

Every 29 June, Finale Ligure celebrates Saint Peter, patron saint of fishermen and  sailors. Bonfires are lit on the beach and the statue of the saint is carried through the streets of the town on the shoulders of fishermen, who dance barefoot and dressed  in rough cloth. The heavy statue leaves the church and is carried first to the Bianchi beach and then to the Neri beach to greet the sea. The return to the church is the most solemn moment:  if Saint Peter enters upright, the year will be a good one for fishing.
