Discovering the sea between Bergeggi, Noli and Finale Ligure: nature, adventure and innovation
by FOR – Finale Outdoor Region
The coastline around Finale is one of the most fascinating stretches of the Ligurian Sea: a succession of spectacular views, wild nature and crystal clear waters.
Here, the sea tells ancient stories among the sheer cliffs of Capo Noli, hidden coves such as the picturesque beach of Punta Crena, the picturesque village of Varigotti and the Beach Rocks, extraordinary rock formations emerging from the sea.
A short distance from the shore is the Bergeggi Island Marine Protected Area, a paradise of biodiversity, while offshore lies the Cetacean Sanctuary, an international protected area where, with a little luck, you can spot dolphins, whales and friendly sea turtles.
But there is also the fascinating sight of basil and other plants being grown underwater!
Curious? Come with us to discover the blue wonders of the Finale Outdoor Region.

Between beaches and adventures: experience the sea of Finale
The coastline offers both beaches equipped with all amenities, ideal for families, and wonderful free beaches surrounded by nature, perfect for those seeking tranquillity and authenticity. And for those who love to be active, there is no shortage of activities: SUP, sailing, diving, snorkelling and kayaking are just some of the experiences to try to enjoy the sea from a different perspective. Here are some ideas for a truly special summer by the sea!
Kayaking and snorkelling in the Bergeggi Marine Protected Area
Established in 2007 and covering 215 hectares, the Isola di Bergeggi Marine Protected Area is characterised by coral reefs, Posidonia oceanica meadows, limestone cliffs and sea caves. It is an environment rich in life: moray eels, seahorses, groupers, lobsters, conger eels and octopuses are just some of the species that inhabit it.
A kayak excursion is the most evocative way to explore this area. With Il Golfo Outdoor, even beginners can take part thanks to single or double sit-on-top kayaks, an initial technical briefing and the constant presence of an environmental guide. During the tour (approximately 3 hours), you will paddle through coves, caves and cliffs, stopping for a swim and snorkelling to discover the crystal-clear seabed.
For the more curious, the experience is enriched with scientific snorkelling activities led by a marine biologist. An educational dive to discover marine habitats, with scientific explanations and direct observation of the fauna.
Environmental monitoring and citizen science
Another innovative offering is environmental monitoring: in addition to having fun, it is an opportunity to contribute to scientific research. During the tour, participants photograph or record the species they spot on waterproof tablets. The data is then uploaded to platforms such as iNaturalist, helping to assess the health of the marine ecosystem. A perfect example of regenerative tourism, where adventure meets commitment to the environment.
Nemo’s Garden: a vegetable garden under the sea
Noli is home to a place that is unique in the world: Nemo’s Garden, the first experiment in underwater horticulture. Accompanied by a certified guide from Escursioni Liguria, you set off from the beach for a snorkelling session among rocky seabeds teeming with life. The destination? The submerged biospheres where terrestrial plants – such as Ligurian basil – are grown underwater in a mix of technology, sustainability and innovation.
From this year, the experience becomes even more immersive thanks to Ocean Reef’s Snorkie Talkie: full-face masks with voice communication, so you can talk underwater and share your emotions in real time.
Sentieri Blu: snorkelling among the wonders of Bergeggi and Finale Ligure
With Salto nel Blu, you can explore the sea in a simple but spectacular way: the Sentiero Blu di Finale Ligure is a guided snorkelling route about 150 metres long, near the picturesque Pagliai cliffs. Marked by buoys and guide cables, it is accessible to anyone who can swim with a mask and fins.
Along the route, there are underwater information panels that describe the wonders of local biodiversity, with a special focus on Posidonia oceanica. Ideal for adults and children, the Blue Trail is a unique opportunity to get closer to the sea in an informed, safe and environmentally friendly way.
Don’t miss the Blue Trail of the Bergeggi Marine Protected Area
Approximately 3 km long, the trail runs just off the coast of Bergeggi, within an area closed to motorised navigation and designed to ensure safety for those who love swimming or stand-up paddleboarding. The route, which crosses the entire Marine Protected Area, is marked by 27 buoys, ideal for taking a break or finding your bearings while swimming.
