Enzo Gagliardino

Enzo Gagliardino was born in Brandizzo in 1949 and, at 18 years old, he began traveling across Europe and other continents, coming into contact with important artists and deepening his knowledge of art history. In 1973, he returned to Italy and dedicated himself to self-taught painting.

His early works represent enclosed and everyday places, such as waiting rooms, hospitals, and gyms, creating an unsettling and claustrophobic atmosphere. Between 1976 and the early 1980s, he developed a cycle dedicated to prisons and detention, where spaces become symbols of isolation and deprivation of freedom.

In the 1980s, his painting changed: he gradually abandoned enclosed environments to focus on urban spaces, representing buildings, windows, facades, and urban furnishings. In this way, he interprets the landscape of large cities and the skyline of the contemporary world.
